Manhattan Last & Shine Nail Polish | Love Peach – Review

Nail Polish is a girls best friend and at the same time her worst enemy. Do you know why?

Just think about your hands. How beautiful they look when you have your nails perfectly manicured. And now let’s do a fast forward to the moment your polish starts to chip. There you have your answer.

I am probably going to mention this more than once, but when chatting with my friend recently we came to the realisation that you actually cannot review more than one product at once. The reason for that is the fact, that even if the products may be from the same line, the formula and its effects are different for every colour of shade there is.

I want to give you guys high quality reviews and tips that are really helpful, so that you can enjoy makeup as much as I do with knowledge that is of use to everyone out there, and if I want to accomplish that I need to look at every single one separately. I really hope you support me in my journey, so that one day I can say OUR journey instead of mine.

The product:

Manhattan Last & Shine Nail Polish – Love Peach

Let me be honest, I only bought this colour because I am a sucker for anything peach nowadays. And this colour is peach. I was a bit disappointed though because my expectations were somewhat different. But let me show you why with the review:

Ingredients:

I have been researching the products main ingredients in all my reviews so far, but this time I have to admit that I have absolutely no clue what is important and what is not. Sorry for that.

I linked the full ingredient list from dm Germany because I could not find anything on the Manhattan website. (Maybe it’s just me being blind though)  This is actually really disappointing because when you buy Korean Cosmetics the ingredients are always listed at least somewhere with quick and easy access.

BUTYL ACETATE, ETHYL ACETATE, NITROCELLULOSE, ACETYL TRIBUTYL CITRATE, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, TOSYLAMIDE/EPOXY RESIN, STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, STEARALKONIUM BENTONITE, POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE, ADIPIC ACID/NEOPENTYL GLYCOL/TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER, SILICA, TRIPHENYL PHOSPHATE, CALCIUM ALUMINUM BOROSILICATE, AQUA/WATER/EAU, POLYBUTYLENE TEREPHTHALATE, DIACETONE ALCOHOL, ALUMINA, ETOCRYLENE, KAOLIN, ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, GLYCIDYL NEODECANOATE/PHTHALIC ANHYDRIDE/TMP CROSSPOLYMER, ISOBUTYLPHENOXY EPOXY RESIN, ETHYLENE/VA COPOLYMER, n-BUTYL ALCOHOL, CORALLINA OFFICINALIS EXTRACT, ACRYLATES/ DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER, ISOSORBIDE DICAPRYLATE/CAPRATE, DIMETHYL ISOSORBIDE, PHOSPHORIC ACID, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, DIMETHICONE, ACETONE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, MEK, BENZOPHENONE-1, CETYL PEG/PPG-10/1 DIMETHICONE, POLYVINYL BUTYRAL, POLYBUTYLENE GLYCOL/MDI COPOLYMER, POLYURETHANE-11, STEARALKONIUM HECTORITE, TRIMETHYLPENTANEDIYL DIBENZOATE, POLYETHYLENE, HYDROLYZED CONCHIOLIN PROTEIN, CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS (SAFFLOWER) SEED OIL, MACROCYSTIS PYRIFERA (KELP) EXTRACT, TIN OXIDE, [May Contain /Peut Contenir/+/-:MICA, TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), D&C YELLOW NO. 11 (CI 47000), MANGANESE VIOLET (CI 77742), ULTRAMARINES (CI 77007), ALUMINUM POWDER (CI 77000), D&C RED NO. 6 BARIUM LAKE (CI 15850), D&C RED NO. 7 CALCIUM LAKE (CI 15850, CI 1), FD&C YELLOW NO. 5 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 19140), BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE (CI 77163), D&C RED NO. 34 CALCIUM LAKE (CI 15880), FERRIC FERROCYANIDE (CI 77510), FD&C BLUE NO. 1 ALUMINUM LAKE (CI 42090), CARMINE (CI 75470), D&C RED NO. 7 (CI 15850), FD&C YELLOW NO. 5 (CI 19140), D&C VIOLET NO. 2 (CI 60725)].

How to use it:

I guess nail polish is pretty self explanatory but one thing I would like to mention is that with the thick brush that comes with the Last & Shine product line, you should really watch the amount of polish that is on the brush. If necessary, simply wipe off some of the excess and you are good to go.

What it claims to do:

  • Intense colour and brilliant high shine
  • Longlasting – up to 10 days
  • Quick drying
  • Ultra shiny and smooth finish
  • Even application in 1 stroke with Fast & Easy brush
  • Withstands daily chores

What it really does:

The colour is really pretty. There is one problem though: the polish is see through. And not the pretty translucent type, but the kind that is somewhat glassy in some places while in others it has complete coverage. Because of this, applying only one layer makes the polish look unrefined.

But this is easy to avoid, and the brush is really nice, not loosing any hairs or reducing its quality after painting my nails quite often.

Also this may really depend on your personal preference but I like broader brushes because the polish applies more smoothly. The risk with a fat brush is putting on too much colour and going over the edges though.

I would love to hear your personal nail polish brush preferences in the comments below. What is your holy grail nail polish?

So, let’s assume best case scenario and the polish is applied just the right way. Then the colour is totally gorgeous. If you are looking for a feminine colour that is not toned down or sheer but really vivid this will be your best friend. The pink-orange colour is definitely girly, there is no denying that but neither in a cliche barbie way, nor too domineering to wear on a daily basis.

I know this picture is not that beautiful, but it shows just how much the dried polish shines

When you take the time to apply the polish perfectly then yes, the colour is intense, but until then it just looks really unflattering. The shine is there tough.

I have bought other colours from this product line too and with every single one I have tried  this claim was fulfilled.

Your nails get a really glamorous high quality shine to them that makes your hands look semi-professionally manicured. I actually got a lot of compliments on the glamorous shine of the Manhattan product!

Summarised:

The cons:

Con 1: The colour does not go on well. I have mentioned this a lot, but this is one big pet peeve of mine.

Except for the obviously translucent products, I expect my nail polish to have a good coverage. When you apply nail polish with bad coverage just once -for whatever reason- it looks so unclean.

I tried some different techniques to raise the coverage to a decent level and from what experience I have gained until now the best way to get the best result is by applying a thin layer of white base coat, then a thin layer of the Manhattan Last & Shine Nail Polish. Wait until this layer is completely dry and finish with adding another layer, because even tough it might look alright with only one layer right after applying, I noticed that in the natural sunlight some areas are still see through.

Con 2: This whole quick drying claim is kind of relative. Sure in comparison to some low quality products, the Manhattan nail polish hardens really fast but if you compare it to  Maybellines Superstay Seven Day Nail Polish for example, it just does not fulfil the requirements. My answer is So-So

Con 3: This is actually connected to Con 1 and Con 2 but because there is a need to add many layers the time you need to invest into doing your nails goes up a lot.

I have been typing this post while waiting for the polish to dry and I am nowhere near there yet.

If you want to treat yourself then this is the perfect nail polish to do so. Put on a movie and time will fly. But if you are in a rush I do not recommend the Love Peach swatch to the Last & Shine Nail Polish.

The pros:

Pro 1: The colour is stunning. There is no denying that the result is worth the wait in some ways. The intensity and brightness of the polish take away some of the frustration of having to wait for what feels like forever.

Pro 2: The Manhattan polish really is ultra shiny. With this colour on your nails you will look ten times more professional than with many other products out there.

Actually a person I really admire for her flawless skin complimented me on my nails recently, saying that I always look so well groomed and that I must be spending a lot of money on high quality products. I was really happy of course, but the truth is, I am not using any really expensive nail products because I am way to broke to be able to afford them. 😉 But this really shows just how good the Last & Shine nail polish actually is.

Pro 3: The brush is high quality in my opinion and I will continue saying so until I find some better product or you guys convince me otherwise.

Pro 4: Speaking about quality. The price-quality-ratio is acceptable. I paid around 3$/€ and this is quite an OK price.

Manhattan is one of the a bit higher quality brands – in my opinion – that are still affordable and I have not had any bad experience with any of their nail products yet.

Pro 5: The claim of this polish to be long lasting is a true one. I tried it out – as some of you might have seen on my recent Instagram posts – and it will be a bit over a week by now and so far, I only have one single crack to complain about. And to give the poor product some credit, I have not been exactly careful or gentle with my nails this week.

Conclusion:

The Manhattan Last and Shine polish line is really good but this particular product is not one of my favourites. The only reason I would consider purchasing the Love Peach swatch again is the colour. I have not seen any other nail polish that captures this peach tone quite like this one.

This nail polish receives a two out of five from me. Even though the colour is nice and the polish shines beautifully I don’t feel like this is worth the time and effort you have to put into it.

There are better swatches from this particular line that I will be reviewing soon, so stay tuned until then.

My Alchemiin Tip:

Because the nail polish has a beautiful texture by itself it feels like a shame to put another layer of top coat over it.

Let the product speak for itself and I am sure you will not be disappointed. Also, you shouldn’t worry about this nail polish breaking without the top coat. Its name is Last & Shine” after all.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you! With all my love, Eden ❤

It’s so true. Polish can really be your friend and enemy as the same time hahaha 😀 I love having my nails painted, and almost feel naked without it. I haven’t had the best experience with this brand, I remember using some of skincare products for my acneprone skin when I was younger, which didn’t work out at all. Since then I’ve just stayed away from this. Besides I’m a bit picky when it comes to polishes, I want opaqueness and I want it fast 😀 But this was such a great post, Lovely ❤

I am a bit cautious with Manhattan myself to tell you the truth. I can totally agree with your experience. some of their products I used reacted badly to my skin and I stopped using them. 😦 Also their concealer didn’t even have my skin tone and whenever I used them, I looked absolutely horrendous. :’) I was a lot younger back then and didn’t know what to do with myself – not that I do that now but… 😉 –
And just like you I am quite cautious when it comes to any of their skincare products since back then. 🙂 Manhattan is kind of a brand that is really Yay or Nay and you never know what you will get until you try it out. Some of my favourite products are from this brand but so are some of my biggest mistakes XD

Oh I totally get that! :’) I am horrible when it comes to waiting and patience when doing my nails is not something I own.

Thank you for your lovely comment! It is such an honour to have somebody read my posts and then share their thoughts with me. It really makes me so happy I cannot put it into coherent words ❤ ❤ Thank you so much!

I don’t think I’ll be going back to Manhattan anytime soon, as I do think their products are targeted more towards teenage skin. Besides I feel like there’s so many other great, affordable skincare out there to try out 😀 I was more than happy to stop by ❤ Can't wait till your next post!
